EX30 Specified in the Dublin Sea Port Tunnel

Charles Austen Pumps EX30 explosion proof pumps were chosen for their reliability, robust construction and ATEX certification by Zellweger Analytics to be incorporated into an aspirated gas sampling system for the Dublin Port Tunnel.

Currently handling two thirds of all Irelands seaport trade Dublin sees over two million trucks and 300,000 cars travel in and out of the port each year. These figures have been growing steadily and the city's roads were not able to keep up. The solution has been in the Dublin Port Tunnel which comprises 5.6 Km of dual carriageway, 4.5Km of which is 20m beneath the city.

Safety was a key issue in the running on the tunnel and Zellweger Analytics were contracted to build two sampling systems to be designated northbound and southbound within the underground section of the road tunnel. These would monitor two storm water sumps and the O2 levels in the air eliminating the possibility of explosions from petrol and oil spillages and health risks from the possible rise in carbon monoxide. Using six EX30 pumps to service 24 sampling points Zellweger custom designed the system, which now effectively monitors the tunnel.

Applications include gas monitoring, hazardous area sampling, chemical processing and use in the printing industry. EX30 pumps are certified to the enlcosure group class IIC and carry ATEX certification allowing use in Hydrogen atmospheres. As an OEM pump it is ideal for monitoring the ingress of flammable gas and smoke into HVAC ducts. With a standard performance of 17 l/min flow, 2.8 bar pressure and, 540 mmHg vacuum the standard pump will exceed most sampling requirements.
